No kitchen is complete without our beautifully functional Kenji Mortar & Pestle. This cooking staple comes to us from a collective of makers in Japan’s Shimane Prefecture, who combine traditional Japanese craftsmanship with more modernized designs in an effort to keep their country’s age-old crafts alive for future generations. Modeled after a traditional suribachi, or grinding bowl, Kenji’s mortar is handmade from ceramic, with a subtle pouring spout, a soft matte cream glazed exterior and an unglazed, ridged interior. This jagged interior texture allows you to grind your ingredients down to the perfect consistency — with the help of the pestle, of course, which is carved from wood sourced from native Sansho pepper trees for an earthy feel. A lovely addition to any home chef’s arsenal, use our Kenji Mortar & Pestle for grinding your own spice blends or whipping up homemade guac, pesto or hummus. All other non-furniture items can be returned for a full refund, as long as they are returned within either 30 days of purchase if bought in store or 30 days after the order was received if bought on our website. We will inspect the returned item(s) and issue a refund to the same credit card used for original purchase. You will receive a confirmation email once we have processed your credit.
